Vini/VitiColloque:
Bringing
Burgundy and Wine professionals from around the world together!
An
exclusive educational and travel experience for: Wine makers, grape
growers, winery personnel, educators, sommeliers,
wine and food journalists.
Background:
In 2004 a group of winemakers, winery owners and grape growers from
the Niagara Region in Canada came to La Roche D’Hys for the first
Colloquium. The group included Lailey Vineyard owners, Donna and Tonya,
their wine maker Derrick Barnett, The Featherstone Winery's Dave
Johnson,
Debbie Zimmerman, the President of the Niagara Wine Growers
Association among others. French
participants included, Thierry Guyot, celebrated organic wine
specialist, the Beaune
Wiine Institute,
the wine cooperative of Buxy, wine makers of Vosne Romanee
and Chablis as well as smaller independents in Auxerrois and
Irancy
After an action packed 10 days of on- site visits, seminars
and exchanges, we hosted the first ever dégustation /wine tasting of
Canadian Niagara wines with an invited audience/wine tasters of some
sixty Burgundian wine tasters. It was a revelation!
There was a wonderful article in the French newspapers * (photo)
and a fabulous report of the whole experience on the Lailey Vineyard
website.
Based on the success of that experience, we invited some Michigan
wineries the U. S. who were planning to participate in
the 2007 colloquia to ship us some of their wines for a “Literary Apéro”
event which was held at the Office de Tourisme in Vitteaux in May 2006
as a preview performance. It too was a great success and once again
there was extensive press coverage in the media of this event.
In April 2007, the second Vini/Viti Colloquium was held at La Roche
D'Hys, this time with a group of winemakers, Winery owners and growers
from Michigan USA. Participants included Mawby
Winery,
Shady Lane Winery,
Bel Lago Winery,
Arc Turos Winery
