Regional Interest:

La Roche D'Hys is identified on the Michelin detailed map of France. It is located in the heart of l'Auxois region of the Cote D'Or in Burgundy, France. It is situated four km from the picturesque Medieval town of Vitteaux which has a population of 1500 people. Vitteaux serves as regional centre where there is shopping, an hospital hotels and restaurants, local services and a restored medieval market which is open every Saturday year round.



  • La Roche D'Hys is 2:30 hours drive from Paris, 18km off the A6 (Paris to Beaune/Lyon route), exit Biere les Semur.

  • It is just over one hour by train from Paris by TGV, get off at either Montbard (1 hr) or Dijon (1:30 hr) or one half-hour drive from either Dijon or Montbard.

  • There are many historical attractions and sites in the surrounding area : Historic Alesia, site of the last stand and surrender of the great Gaullish Chieftain Vercingetorix to Julius Caesar in 52 B.C. Many other Gallo-Roman sites and ruins. Medieval and Renaissance Chateaux at Ancy Le Franc, Tanlay, Chateauneuf, Arnay le Duc, Commarin. The Monastary of Epoisse (Cheese) Abbey de Fontanay, Abbey de la Bussiere. The Roman city of Autun with its Roman theatre.

  • Swimming/ Fishing : Beautiful Natural Reservoir at Grosbois five km away with its wonderful fresh water and clean beach. The Morvan, a great hiking, swimming, sailing and fishing region is adjacent.

  • Wine Lovers will be strategically located, one half hour away from the Chablis Region and the Route des Grandes Crus of the Cote D'Or - the heart and soul of the great Burgundies, both red and white.

  • Food Lovers can sample and enjoy the fabulous food everywhere in Burgundy where there are numerous "foires" and food and wine fairs throughout the year. Of special note is the world famous Foire des Gourmands in Dijon, held for two weeks each year at the beginning of November.

  • Music, Art, Theatre Festivals are held everywhere throughout the region from May to October. In Dijon one will find the National Theatre of Burgundy and the new Auditorium de Dijon which presents world class performances year round.

  • There is regular Bus Service to and from Vitteaux:
    Vitteaux/Dijon 45 minutes, Vitteaux/Semur en Auxios 20 minutes, Vitteaux/Avallon 30 minutes.
