Music and Dance Exchange  *  New 2008

Music And Dance Exchange - is a residential interdisciplinary performance laboratory for professional artists and researchers, based at Ferme de la  Roche D’Hys- Domaine des Arts in Burgundy France.

Music and Dance Exchange allows participants to explore collaborations between the disciplines of music and dance, with the additional involvement of theatre, visual and digital arts, to create starting points for new performance work. Music and Dance Exchange provides essential time for artists to investigate new aspects of performance work; to engage in creative practice-based research where the focus is on process, not product.

Music Dance Exchange - 2009 Project:

Forbidden to Forget -  Music under Tyranny
In recent years the public has become more recognizant and familiar with the musical works of composers who were persecuted banned, isolated , imprisoned or killed in Europe  between  1933 – 1945.
Canadian dance troupe Dancetheatre David Earle under the artistic direction of celebrated choreographer David Earle  will be working in collaboration with the Penderecki String Quartet and award winning film producer Eileen Thalenberg, to create a physical visualization of this music through contemporary dance. Composers whose works are featured include: Edwin Schulhoff, Gideon Klein, Dimitri Shostakovitch  Pavel Haas,
Viktor Ullmann, Ernst Krenek, Franz  Schreker. There is also a whole group of popular composers, poetry, songs and of course Jazz music of that era which will eventually  be incorporated.

L'Académie de la Roche D’Hys feels privileged to participate and we know that the involvement of the DtDE will be the key.  It is also our hope that the development and creation of this work is only the first step and that the premiere here in France will generate interest and more performances all over the world.
